I believe if you put the first car back to stock settings you can then use the programmer on a different car. It retains the original cars info and only works on it.

No. When the programmer is used the first time, it reads the PCM and is married to it. You can revert to factory, but it will never work on another vehicle.
NOTE:—–>
Should you ever need to reprogram the PCM at the dealer for an update, or to resolve a performance or control issue from the factory, you should revert to factory programming before taking it to the dealer, or the Hypertech programmer will lock you out of further modifications.
