Question by Keysle: What do more Gigahertz do for my computer?
I’ve always known RAM makes my computer faster. But don’t Gigahertz do the same thing?
How are they making my computer faster? What are they responsible for?
Never cared much to look into it, but I’m gonna need to know eventually… You know, being a cutting edge programmer and all.

The clock speed of your CPU cores are measured in GHz. The faster it is, the more operations that core can do per second. The number of cores in your CPU and the speed at which their clocks run at is one factor out of many that determines how fast your computer runs in most situations.
Also, it is worth mentioning that RAM does not make your computer go faster. Speed is a by-product of its actual function, which is fast, short-term data storage. The more RAM there is (to a certain extent), the less you have to spin up the hard drive for data, which is slow.
Assuming your last line isn’t sarcasm: If you want to be a programmer, I suggest you learn the basics. If you don’t know what RAM and GHz mean for your computer, among with a million other basic facts about how computers work, you’re hosed.
