My new after market exhaust is tripping a sensor on the computer, what could it be?
Question by Aaron S: My new after market exhaust is tripping a sensor on the computer, what could it be?
I have a 2005HD with Duramax and I replaced installed a 4″ exhaust. The computer is tripping the turbo, EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculating Valve). I am thinking that the computer just noticed a change in the performance of the system. The installer suggested that I disconnect the battery and let the computer reset itself. Is this problem common with after market exhausts?

yes. most cars pick up changes in both cold air intakes and exhausts. be it temperature or just higher flow, they both set off check engine lights. look for a bypass wiring splice or ask the place you bought the catback from. disconnecting the battery wont help cause the exhaust is still there.
My only thought is you possibly dont have enough backpressure to spool the turbo, or the egr valv is disconnected somehow, or could be coincidence
