I have a 2000 Ford Excursion Diesel 4×4. I love everything about the truck except for the fuel mileage, (especially with diesel at over .00 a gallon!) Has anyone used a performance chip, such as Bully Dog, to improve mileage. If so, how many more MPG did you get? I’m just checking to see if the price for the programmer is worth it.

Yes. You will get a couple more miles per gallon if YOU STAY OFF THE GAS which is hard to do after you install the chip

I have used one for a power gain. The mileage stays the same. To increase mileage, go with a K&N intake. I gained 3 mpg with this. A larger exhaust will help too.
I did an EDGE tuner to my Duramax along with a MAC Performance cold-air intake, as well as a 5 inch Monster Exhaust system and it increased my mileage by anywhere from 3 to 5 mpg. All in all it probably cost me $800 but it was well worth it for the power and mileage, especially since diesel is so expensive now. If you go with a cold-air intake, you’ll see a slight improvement, but with just the programmer alone you won’t see much more than 1 mpg or so. If you’re going to do the programmer, go for the intake as well. If you want a little more juice, go for an exhaust. But, if it’s a family vehicle I don’t know if the family would want to listen to that exhaust system on a long ride. Good Luck!
