I am looking to add a power chip to my diesel for city driving, pulling my fifth wheel, and just overall performance inhancement. I want to make sure I don’t overheat anything, and I want a good reputible manufacturer. But I don’t want to spend a grand either. I am a newbie somewhat at diesels and total rookie at power chips and things of that nature.

To protect your truck you need to invest in an egr delete, gauges, air intake, and exhaust before getting a chip. One of the best performance chips out there are TS chip (programmed by Tony Wildman) and Jody’s DP F5 or F6 chip.

Mostly agreeing with the other guy here about TS. I have an 06 with a power hungry tune software put into Edge hardware by some guy that used to work for edge and went on his own now but still uses their monitor I would say its better than Edge. But I also agree an egr block is one of the first things that needs to get done that will lower the egt by about 100 deg. The stock truck will run the egt to about 1300 max and with the power hungry and egr delete I have to beat my truck grossed at 23k lbs to reach 1300 degrees and as far as reliability I have over 177k miles on the truck and its by far the most reliable 6.0 I know all you need to do is respect the extra power you put in the truck
