Hi, i just bought a 2001 ford f-250 diesel i wanted to know what chip would be the best to blow black smoke out the exhaust and which one would give me the most hp boost and torque boost.

So I know alot about cars, and alot of my friends have “chipped” their diesel trucks, as my dad just did his 08 duramax, he had the option to turn it to 110 HP, which is crazy to me……I know that the basic idea is to trick the air/fuel mixture? so it runs leaner or richer? correct me if im wrong….So I want to know why diesel engines are so easily modified, while i have never seen a chip on a gas truck or a car…I have an 01 stratus r/t with 3.0 mitsu engine in it, I want to know if there is a chip I can put in this? thanks

Chipping a car isn’t about putting a chip in. The chip is the engine management computer. When you chip it, you re-program the computer to change the engine settings, usually to give more power or remove some of the limiters.

yes, you can chip petrol engines the same as diesels (assuming they’ve actually got a reprogrammable engine management computer in the first place).

That’s what I want for my first truck but a standard, but my dad is telling me that they use allot of diesel I Know that you can add chips to em’ and air intakes, I’m going to straight pipe it maybe even put some stacks on it, would that help out with the fuel economy?

What are “Chips” for Diesel trucks and what do they do. What are some of the nicer ones?

Chips are aftermarket computer chips that replace the ones the manufacture put in there. These chips run the computer that controls the car.

The best chips are the ones the manufacturer put in. The others haven’t been rigorously tested. No one knows what the aftermarket chips will do. Except void any warranty left on the truck,
